Building Homes, Powering Futures: A Community-Led Path to Resilience in Tyonek

Housing & Solar Initiatives in Tyonek

In the Native Village of Tyonek, many homes are aging and in disrepair, often heated with wood, coal, or gas. These outdated systems contribute to poor indoor air quality and high energy costs—placing a significant burden on families, especially those living in multi-generational households.

Our housing and solar program aim to address these challenges with sustainable, community-driven solutions. By integrating energy-efficient technologies like water heat pumps and solar panels, we’re working to reduce reliance on costly and polluting fuels. We’re also developing a village-scale solar farm to generate clean energy and create a source of local income.

These efforts not only improve health and safety—they build the foundation for long-term resilience. As homes become safer, more affordable, and more sustainable, families are encouraged to return to Tyonek. With new employment opportunities in construction, clean energy, and maintenance, this initiative supports both environmental justice and economic revitalization.
